Q&A: Understanding Fuel Up to Play 60
In an ongoing effort to revitalize fluid milk consumption by children across the United States, the dairy checkoff has partnered with the National Football League to improve children's health and move more dairy in schools. Take a moment to learn more about one of the largest youth wellness programs in the country, Fuel Up to Play 60.

What is Fuel Up to Play 60 (FUTP 60)? Launched by the National Dairy Council (NDC) and the National Football League (NFL), in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Fuel Up to Play 60 empowers youth to take action to improve nutrition and physical activity at their schools and in their communities.
How large is the FUTP 60 program? Since the program launched nationally in 2009, FUTP 60 has over 73,000 schools and 38 million students enrolled. In the Southeast region, over 8.8 million students make better food choices every day by selecting nutritious options like milk, cheese and yogurt, fruits, vegetables and whole grains while getting more physical activity during the day.
How does FUTP 60 help fluid milk sales? FUTP 60 increases fluid milk sales through grants to schools for breakfast programs, smoothies and yogurt parfait programs, as well as other nutrition education activities.
How does FUTP 60 help provide dairy products in schools? Over $20 million in funds for FUTP 60 mini-grants have helped over 5,000 schools and 3 million students make healthy changes. Grab-n-go breakfast carts make nutritious breakfast-on-the-go available to students. Each $2,000 mini-grant per school impacts an average of 566 students daily and helps deliver up to 102,000 breakfasts, each with an 8-ounce serving of milk each year.
Have we seen evidence supporting FUTP 60's success? Yes, students and families are drinking more milk at home. In a recent study of students enrolled in FUTP 60 by the NDC, 89 percent are consuming more dairy, 86 percent reportedly are consuming more dairy at home, 75 perfect are consuming more dairy at school and 71 percent reportedly are encouraging family members to consume more dairy.
What NFL teams does SUDIA partner with? There are four NFL teams located in the Southeast: The New Orleans Saints, Tennessee Titans, Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons.
