2015 Buckhead Holiday Driving & Shopping Hacks

Only eight days until Christmas. Will you be out shopping for the holidays? Let these driving and shopping hacks save you time and stress during this holiday season.

If you do not need to drive, MARTA is always a good option. Bring along a rolling cart or suitcase to easily hold all your purchases. MARTA will run a modified schedule for Christmas Eve and be open Christmas Day. More information is available on MARTA.

The Buc is another great and free commuting option that provides connections between transit stops and Atlanta's hottest shopping destinations. The Buc's hours of operation and routes are provided on its website, but remember, it will not be running on Christmas Day or New Year's Day.

Uber and Lyft also can be convenient. Just sign up for the app on your smart phone, request a ride and a car will be sent for you, which you can track along the way. Be prepared to store your credit card information in the app, as the drivers are not paid in cash. Uber has recently announced a carpooling service that is cheaper if you don't mind stopping to drop people off and pick them up on your way. This could be a fun way to share the holiday spirit and save some money.

Plan on bringing the little ones holiday shopping? Come prepared with snacks, toys and games to keep them entertained. If you would like to get their picture with Santa, Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza have posted times, along with a reservation option allowing you to spend more time shopping instead of waiting in Santa's line. Also, Macy's at Lenox Square is hosting its annual Priscilla the Pink Pig Rides. A time-honored tradition in Atlanta, the ride is on the upper level parking deck and costs $3.

If you are going to drive, we have good news! Take advantage of extended holiday hours at your favorite shopping locations, as well as the Buckhead CID holiday traffic officer program. Buckhead CID created the program in an effort to help alleviate holiday traffic in the Buckhead area, and funds and manages the deployment of additional off-duty Atlanta Police Department (APD) traffic officers in key congested locations.

Officers will be posted at road intersections that correlate to Lenox Square Mall and Phipps Plaza, and also will include:

  • Peachtree Road at Lenox Road
  • Peachtree Road at Monarch Centre/Lenox Mall Entrance
  • Peachtree at Lenox Parkway
  • Lenox Road at Kingsboro Road/Lenox Mall Entrance
